First, I’d like to say I am super excited to be stopping by Rachel’s blog today. She’s been an amazing supporter of the Chosen Ones, and I couldn’t be more thankful.
Today, I am here to talk about music and its relationship to the Chosen Ones. When writing guest posts for blogs, I sometimes find it difficult to come up with topics that I feel readers will find interesting. But when the stars align…they simply align. I’m not sure how many of you know this but Rachel created an amazing book trailer for the Chosen Ones. Truly amazing. I showed it off to everyone I knew, posting it on my blog, twitter page, and facebook. Besides the super cool graphics, Rachel picked a truly superb song---Evanescence’s Bring me to Life. The song really summarized the themes and mood of the novel. A co-worker of mine followed me around for weeks singing that song, and just this weekend a friend of my mother’s stopped me in Target and gushed about the trailer.
Music is a powerful thing.
I listen to music and attend a lot of concerts. In fact, it was during long car rides visiting a friend who went to school a few hours away from where I lived that I came up with the story for the Chosen Ones rocking out to a variety of movie soundtracks.
I spent a lot of time coming up with a suitable playlist for the novel which I am posting below. These songs truly represent the characters and conflicts that make up the novel. As I am putting the finishing touches on The Naturals, the sequel to the Chosen Ones, I can tell you that I’ve been listening to a lot of Florence and the Machine, Niki and the Dove, and oddly enough…bluegrass and folk music. For those of you who have read the first novel, perhaps this will give you some clues about the sequel...muhahaha….but if you haven’t…perhaps the awesome songs below will entice you to give Chosen Ones a try.

About Chosen Ones
The Lost Souls, book 1 hitting bookshelves June 10, 2012 from Entangled Publishing!
I pushed down a key. The hair on the back of my neck shot up, and my skin tingled.
I imagined this was what it felt like to fall in love.
In that moment, I was ready to fall.
Life is bleak but uncomplicated for Tess, living in a not-too-distant future where the government, faced with humanity’s extinction, created the Chosen Ones, artificial beings who are extraordinarily beautiful, unbelievably strong, and unabashedly deadly.
When Tess begins work at Templeton, a Chosen Ones training facility, she meets James, and the attraction is immediate in its intensity, overwhelming in its danger. But there is more to Templeton than Tess ever knew. Can she stand against her oppressors, even if it means giving up the only happiness in her life?

I can't agree with you more! I have an entire page on my blog dedicated to music. It's my music diary, and more times than not, I'm listening to an amazing song while writing an important scene. I also posted--after a bit of hesitation--the songs I listened to while I was doing character development on Jayden, one of my characters.
ReplyDeleteI can't thank you enough for being brave enough to post your soundtrack. I know it's a very personal thing to share with the world! :)
And, yes, Rachel is just about the coolest person I've met through my writing adventures thus far. Thanks, Rachel, for having Tiffany on your blog! :D
